Padma Multipurpose Bridge Bangladesh
Padma Bridge Update 2024. Padma is a multipurpose bridge across the Padma River at Bangladesh. It is a longest bridge in Bangladesh. It is a road and rail bridge. It will connect south-west of the country to northern and eastern region. Padma is the most challenging project in Bangladesh barbecue it is own funded by Bangladesh Government. It is two layer steel truss bridge where upper layer will use for highway and lower layer will be used for rail road. Upper level is four lane highway but rail road is single track but both meter gauge and broad gauge train can run on the bridge. The bridges one side situated at Mawa, Munshiganj and other side situated at Zajira, Shariatpur District. 21 Districts at south region will be connected by Padma Bridge. Total cost of the bridge BDT 301933.88 Million based on 2nd RDPP.
Padma Bridge Length: Length of the Padma Bridge is 6.150 km and width is 18.18 meter. Total span 41 and each span is 150 meter long. Total Pile of the bridge 286 where 262 piles are made by steel and 24 piles are made by concrete. Pile length 128m and pile dia 3m. Each pier contain 6 no piles. There is 4-lane express highway both side of padma bridge which wide 22m. Dhaka to Bhanga expressway length is 55 km. Land acquisition about 1471 hector for the bridge.
Padma Multipurpose Bridge History: Govt has taken division to build Padma Bridge by own fund and started feasibility study on 1999. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated Padma Bridge construction on December 12, 2015. It’s 1st span has been installed on September 30, 2017 on 37 and 38 pillar. After 3 years and 10 months, 41st span of padma bridge installed on December 10, 2020 on pillars 12 and 13. Per span weight 3200 ton.
Utilities services through the Bridge: Government will provide various utilities services through the bridge. South region of the country will get easily important services which was not possible without bridge. Utilities service list given below:
1. 760 mm dia Gas transmission line through Padma bridge
2. Fiber optic and Telephone duc which dia is 150 mm
3. High voltage electric line which help both side people
Earthquake Information: As per deign, Padma Bridge can survive under high earthquake. Engineer used pendulum bearing for Padma Bridge which can carry 10,000 ton weight. The bridge can survive 9.o richter scale earthquake. Padma Bridge Reference
